Photography Farm week 2014

It’s no secret.  I am an avid farmer, “photography farmer” that is!  Back in 2011 I made the best business decision of my photography career. I booked myself on a 2 night 3 day Flash lighting course at The Photography farm which is the amazing dream of Lisa Devlin’s.  It was relatively new then, I think I possibly went on the second farm.  Those three days, were amazing.  I learnt so much, it inspired me to to be more, to want more and to be the best I can be, after those three days I started shooting manual I believe this has taken my ability and work to the next level.  Since then I have been part of this fantastic community and last year I went to the first farm week.  The concept behind this is that it is the same farm (where the magic is) Lisa organises loads of amazing workshops and you choose the ones you want to go too.  It’s like a pick n’ mix to the farm, a bit like a taster to the overall concept of what the farm has to offer.

Skip forward to 2014 and it’s the second farm week.

I can tell you right now it keeps getting better and better,  This year Lisa set up a secret facebook group for attendees to connect.  This was awesome.  It is a bit daunting going on these courses, I try very hard not to compare myself to anyone or worry I’m not good enough to be there.  This group is the friendliest group and I felt like I knew everyone when I was there.  This group made it friendlier and less daunting.

One of the great things about photography farm is the food that is cooked for you. It is something I will never forget.  Well at farm week you could pay an extra £15 to have lunch… as you can see in the photos, delicious!!!!  The other great thing you could do this year was book a mentoring session with your chosen farmer.  What a great idea!

So this year I did Emma Lucy’s course on how to earn money from stock photography.  It really was some of the best money I’ve spent, she shared everything.  If you want to see detail go here.  I have signed up and getting a folder ready to start making me money.  Thank you Emma!

In the afternoon, I got the opportunity to step in front of the camera for the wonderful Photographer Neil Thomas Douglas.  I am a massive fan of his work and since being friends with him I have learnt so much about light and composition.  I managed to convince my husband Michael to model with me and we got to wear our wedding outfits… YES I got to wear my dress again.  We had such a wonderful day together, it felt like we were revisiting how we felt when we got married.  I haven’t yet seen the pictures Neil took of us yet but as soon as I get them I will add them to this post.

The photography farm is such an incredible place, I am so proud to be part of it and grateful.  Thanks again Lisa.

Lisa has also built the online tutorial and document training within The Barn, this terrific resource. Check it out!!!

Ps… these photos are backwards.. I think its charming in this instance to work backwards, the first photo below is how it was – warm, friendly and fun… and yes…. there where two types of cake!!!!
